Winter Fun in Muskegon County

A Winter Adventure Guide

As the temperatures drop, Muskegon County transforms into a winter wonderland, offering a wide array of activities to keep locals and visitors entertained all season long. Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventures, cozy indoor experiences, or cultural events, Muskegon has something for everyone. Here’s your guide to making the most of winter in Muskegon County!

Make the Most of the Cooler Weather

Outdoor Adventures

If you like to be outside when the weather turns cooler, Muskegon truly is a winter wonderland for you to experience.  Bundle up, grab your family and friends, and make the most of our outdoor adventures.

Adrenaline Junkies:

LUGE ADVENTURE SPORTS PARK

Get your heart pumping at the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park (formerly known as the Muskegon Winter Sports Park)! Zoom down the luge track (the only of its kind in Michigan), ice skate on the massive rink, or explore miles of groomed cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails.  Weather isn’t cooperating?  No problem!  The lighted hiking trails are great for enjoyment anytime there isn’t snow and – no matter the weather – you’ll always enjoy warming up near one of the massive bonfires!

Find some peace and quiet

HIKE AT OUR STATE PARKS

Embrace the snowy serenity at Muskegon State Park and Hoffmaster State Park. Hike, cross country ski, or snowshoe along peaceful trails that offer stunning views of Lake Michigan. Don’t forget your camera to capture the breathtaking winter landscapes!

Spin those wheels

FAT TIRE BIKING

Explore the snow-covered trails on a fat tire bike! With trails like those at Mosquito Creek, you can keep cycling all year round.

Bundle Up and Stay Warm

Cozy Indoor Activities

Relax and unwind inside

BEERS, BOWLING, AND MORE

Of course, we’re a bit biased, but we have to recommend a few of our own indoor spaces.

The Brewer’s Lounge at Pigeon Hill – Warm up with a pint of your favorite craft beer at the Brewer’s Lounge. Cozy vibes, delicious brews, and occasional live music make it the perfect winter retreat.

Socibowl – Looking for a fun indoor activity for the whole family? Socibowl has you covered with bowling, board games, and a menu full of tasty snacks and drinks.

Now, as much as we love The Brewer’s Lounge and Socibowl, we know they aren’t the only amazing places in our area!  In fact, there are simply too many to list – so we recommend checking out the Visitor’s Bureau (which has a wonderful community calendar) and the Muskegon Visitor’s Guide.

Learn, Listen, and Enjoy

Absorb Some Culture!

Pass the time in a Museum

ART, HISTORY, AND MORE

Escape the chill and explore world-class exhibits at the Muskegon Museum of Art. Their winter calendar often includes special exhibitions and events, making it a cultural hub for the season.

Learn about local history and enjoy hands on science exhibits at the Muskegon Museum of History & Science, located in Downtown Muskegon.

Don’t forget to plan your return trip for the warmer months when you can also visit the Hackley & Hume Historic Sites, the Heritage Museum of Business & Industry, the WWII Submarine Museum, and a landing ship from D-Day!

Listen and Watch

MUSIC AND ACTION

The Frauenthal Center, named one of Michigan’s most beautiful theaters (for good reason!) hosts a great variety of events throughout the season.  For music, you can enjoy an evening of classics with the West Michigan Symphony or an upbeat night of more modern tunes at the Alley Door Club.  Be sure to make time for a musical or play, presented by the Muskegon Civic Theater.

Other great music venues in Muskegon include the Block – a more intimate way to experience West Michigan Symphony’s offerings – and Unruly Brewing, frequent hosts of upbeat dance parties and rock bands.  New arrival “The Corner” promises to bring a mix of events to Muskegon in the coming months as well.

For events a little further north, be sure to check out The Playhouse at White Lake, frequent host of both theatre and music.

Winter in Muskegon County is packed with events and activities, but don’t forget to explore local shops, cozy coffee spots, and dining options. From snow-covered adventures to warm indoor escapes, there’s no shortage of things to do.

Ready to plan your Muskegon winter? Stop by the Brewer’s Lounge at Pigeon Hill Brewing Company to kick off your adventures with a local beer, and let’s make this season one to remember.

Cheers to winter fun in Muskegon!
