It's time to raise a stein for classic German beer

Oktoberfest Returns!

It’s that time of year again – Pigeon Hill’s Oktoberfest is returning for yet another season of celebrating the great art of celebrating beer itself!  Our Märzen style lager captures the spirit and tradition of the world-famous German festival (and classic German beer).  It may seem early, but… then again… is it ever too early to celebrate beer and enjoy one of the most classic styles the world around?  We think not – and that’s why our Oktoberfest is already shipping to wholesalers. You can expect to find it throughout Michigan and Northern Indiana (Valparaiso, Michigan City, South Bend, and Fort Wayne – we’re looking at you!) by early to mid-August, and of course, it will be flowing at the Pigeon Hill Brewer’s Lounge all Oktoberfest season long.

A Brief History of Oktoberfest – Where’s it Come From?!

Oktoberfest has a storied history that dates back to 1810 when Bavaria’s Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. The citizens of Munich were invited to join the festivities, which included horse races, feasts, and, of course, lots of beer. Over the years, the event evolved into the annual Oktoberfest celebration we know today, characterized by hearty foods, lively music, and an abundance of Märzen-style lagers.

Märzen, which means “March” in German, refers to the month the beer was traditionally brewed. These lagers were brewed in March and stored in cool cellars to be enjoyed during the autumn festivities. With its rich, malty flavor and crisp finish, our Oktoberfest is a true tribute to this timeless style.
