At Pigeon Hill Brewing Company, we’ve always believed that great beer should fit seamlessly into the moments that matter—whether it’s a casual night with friends, a weekend adventure, or a post-game celebration. That’s why we’re beyond excited to announce the launch of Damp IPA, a balanced low-alcohol IPA that’s designed to fit into more lifestyles and occasions than ever before.
Starting in April 2025, Damp IPA will be available throughout Michigan and northern Indiana in six-packs of 12oz cans and on draft, bringing a fresh perspective to craft beer lovers who want all the flavor with just a fraction of the alcohol and calories.
Damp IPA isn’t just another session beer—it’s a whole new category. At 2.45% ABV, it sits well below traditional session IPAs (which typically range from 3.5-5%), offering a truly low-alcohol option that still delivers a full-flavored, hop-forward experience. And with just 70 calories and 5g of carbs per can, it’s an easy choice for those looking for a lighter option that doesn’t sacrifice taste.
We set out to create Damp because we saw a gap in the craft beer world—something flavorful yet easy-drinking, light but not lacking.
Damp fits into a variety of lifestyles and drinking preferences:
✅ For those looking to cut back – Whether you’re reducing alcohol for a night, a month, or indefinitely, Damp gives you an option with full craft beer flavor.
✅ For those who love a long session – Enjoy beer after beer without the typical effects of higher-ABV brews.
✅ For the active & mindful drinkers – With a lower calorie and carb count than most beers, Damp complements an active lifestyle without compromise.
✅ For the “just one more” moments – That last round no longer has to mean regrets the next morning.
The idea for a truly low-alcohol craft IPA was first sparked back in 2020, when Pigeon Hill co-founder Michael Brower tried a lower-ABV IPA from Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co. and was amazed at how much flavor it packed—without the typical effects of higher-alcohol beers. That experience planted the seed for what would eventually become Damp IPA.
That seed grew in 2024 at the Michigan Brewers Guild Conference, when renowned brewing scientist Charlie Bamforthgave a keynote speech emphasizing the virtues of low-alcohol beer as opposed to non-alcoholic beer—highlighting how lower-alcohol brews could deliver great flavor while maintaining the balance and integrity of traditional beer.
With that in mind, our brewing team spent nearly a year experimenting, fine-tuning, and pushing the limits of what a low-alcohol IPA could be. The result? A craft beer that’s truly something new.
While Damp IPA is a modern take on low-alcohol craft beer, the idea of “small beers” dates back centuries—especially in Europe, where lower-alcohol brews have long been a staple. Historically, low-alcohol beers were brewed for daily consumption, offering refreshment without excess. Even today, countries like Germany and the UK embrace beers with lower ABVs as part of their beer culture, providing options that balance flavor and drinkability.
Damp IPA carries this tradition forward, striking a middle ground between traditional craft beers and non-alcoholic options—for when you want to enjoy great beer, but on your terms.
Damp IPA will be available across Michigan and northern Indiana in six-packs and kegs this April, so whether you’re picking up a pack for home or grabbing a pint at your favorite taproom, you’ll have plenty of ways to experience this groundbreaking beer.
We can’t wait for you to try it. Stay tuned for updates, release events, and where to find Damp IPA near you. Until then—stay Damp! 🍻
